Crash Alert: Accident along I-35 kills one, injures six

NEW BRAUNFELS, TX – One man was killed and several other people injured after his vehicle collided with a van in New Braunfels late Saturday night.

According to KXAN, the crash occurred at 10:40 p.m. within the 600 block of North Business Interstate 35.

Michael Maraist, 26, was driving along the I-35 frontage road at high speeds when he lost control of his vehicle. The car skidded off of the road and into southbound traffic, where it was struck again by a Ford Transit 350 van.

Maraist was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. The occupants of the van, a family of six were, taken to an area hospital to be treated to minor injuries.

Officials were forced to shut down the I-35 frontage road for several hours while the crash was investigated. The road has since been reopened.
