Crash Alert: City of Austin garbage truck hits, injures child on bike

AUSTIN, TX – A garbage truck operated by the City of Austin hit and seriously injured a child on a bicycle yesterday afternoon, KVUE reports.

The incident occurred at the intersection of Mustang Chase and Hereford Way, on the city’s northwest side. Police responded to the scene by 3:20 p.m., and emergency responders took the child to Dell Children’s Medical Center with injuries deemed serious but not life-threatening.

The driver of the garbage truck stayed at the scene and cooperated with police.

A neighbor who witnessed the accident believed speed played a factor, and asserted that trucks frequently drive through the neighborhood too fast for conditions.
