Crash Alert: Two of three people killed in accident identified

TRAVIS COUNTY, TX – Two victims have been identified after three people died in a two-vehicle accident at 7221 North FM 973 near the Old Decker Creek Bridge on Aug. 21.

According to KXAN, the accident happened just before 8 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 21. A man and a woman were in a 2005 GMC Yukon, and a man was in a 2015 Nissan Altima.

The man in the GMC was identified as 35-year-old Anthony Cathey Jr., and the man in the Nissan as 30-year-old Victor Lares. The woman has not been identified. All three died at the scene of the crash.

Officials from Travis County Sheriff’s Office, Texas Department of Transportation, and the Austin Fire Department responded to the accident. Police are still investigating the cause of the accident, but the lack of street lights in the area may have been a contributing factor.
