Crash Alert: UPDATE Victim identified in fatal Austin pedestrian crash

AUSTIN, TX – East Austin officials have released the name of the man who was struck and killed in a previously reported crash along Old Bastrop Highway on Friday, July 24th.

According to the Austin Police Department, the incident happened in the 900 block of Old Bastrop Highway shortly after 11:30 p.m., when a Toyota Sienna struck a pedestrian who was in the roadway.

Gilbert Hernandez Cortinas, 69, was pronounced dead at the scene. No other injuries were sustained as a result of the crash.

The driver remained at the scene until emergency services arrived. It is unclear whether any charges are being filed against that person.
