Crash Alert: Intoxicated driver hits first responders in Austin

AUSTIN, TX –  A drunk driver crashed into a patrol car and an EMS vehicle in downtown Austin early Sunday morning.

According to Fox 7 News, the collision occurred shortly after midnight on Sunday morning. APD officers had blocked the roadway to protect protesters downtown when the driver of a late-model, red Lincoln sedan sped through the barricades and struck an SUV with an officer inside. The sedan continued on and rear-ended an EMS vehicle, pushing it into another EMS vehicle.

The driver was apprehended at the scene and has been charged with DWI. We will continue to monitor this story for any updates.
