Crash Alert: Woman struck, killed by flatbed truck while crossing IH-35

AUSTIN, TX. – A woman was struck and killed by a flatbed truck while attempting to cross Interstate 35 in Austin.

The crash occurred shortly before midnight on Monday, June 1st, on the 3900 block of N IH 35.  According to the Austin Police Department, the victim was identified as 34-year-old Roberta Gail Ruggles.

The flatbed truck was traveling in the right lane when the driver noticed traffic slowing on the highway. The driver then veered into the left lane to avoid hitting the vehicles in front of them and hit the pedestrian who had moved into the left lane. The driver attempted to brake but could not avoid hitting Ruggles.  She was pronounced dead at the scene at 12:10 a.m.
