COMAL CO., TX – A motorcycle accident in northeast Comal County claimed the life of an off-duty Austin police detective on Saturday.

According to KVUE, the single-vehicle crash occurred around 5:30 a.m. at the intersection of FM 32 and FM 3424. This is about 23 miles northwest of San Marcos and just north of Canyon Lake.

Police haven’t shared any details about the cause or circumstances of the collision except to say that the officer died after transport to a San Marcos hospital.

Authorities identified the fallen officer as Detective Israel Garcia.

As a police officer, Garcia worked with a rapid response team in downtown Austin.

A full investigation is underway.
