BURNET CO., TX – A wrong-way collision along the highway in south-central Burnet County killed five women late last month, reports Fox 7 Austin.
The accident occurred on Friday, July 25th, along on US 281 near Park Road 4, which is between Burnet and Marble Falls and about 55 miles northwest of Austin.
Police say that for unknown reasons, a northbound 2018 Ram truck entered the southbound side of US 281 and crashed head on into a southbound Chevy Malibu carrying five people. The pickup then went on to hit a Mercedes SUV, which ignited.
The five occupants of the Malibu succumbed to their injuries at the scene of the crash.
Authorities identified the victims as Desiree Cervantes, Thalia Salinas, Jackie Velazco, Brianna Valadez, and Ruby Cruz.
At least two other people sustained non-critical injuries in the accident.
On August 5th, police arrested the driver of the pickup, identified as Kody Lane Talley, on manslaughter charges.
The investigation is ongoing.
