AUSTIN, TX – A crash caused by a drunk driver interrupted power for hundreds of Austin Energy customers in East Austin last Wednesday, reports KVUE.
The two-vehicle accident occurred around 1:15 a.m. in the area of East Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Airport Boulevard, which is just southwest of Morris Williams Golf Course.
Police say that the driver of a black eastbound pickup truck was intoxicated when they lost control of their vehicle and hit an unoccupied red pickup truck before crashing into an electric pole.
The impact to the electric pole damaged the transformer, cutting power to a large segment of customers in the area.
Officials arrested the driver of the black pickup truck for DUI.
Nobody sustained injuries in the accident.
The investigation is ongoing.
