JARRELL, TX – A man died, and his wife sustained injuries Saturday in a wrong-way collision along the interstate in north-central Williamson County.
According to Killeen Daily Herald, the accident happened around 3 a.m. on I-35 in the city of Jarrell, which is about 42 miles north of Austin.
Police say that a northbound vehicle entered the southbound side of the interstate and collided head-on with a southbound car.
The driver of the southbound car, identified as Retired Temple Fire & Rescue Captain Randy Smith, sustained fatal injuries.
Medics transported Smith’s wife to an area hospital with non-critical injuries.
It’s unclear if the wrong-way driver sustained injuries in the accident or if they will face charges in connection to the crash.
The investigation is ongoing.
