AUSTIN, TX – Emergency crews responded to a major accident along the freeway in north-central Austin on Monday, reports KVUE.

The single-car collision occurred just after 9:30 pm. on the southbound side of the Mopac Expressway between West Braker Lane and US-183. This is in the Gateway area.

Police say that for unknown reasons, a vehicle crashed in a construction zone along the freeway.

The driver of the vehicle required extrication and was admitted to an area hospital with serious injuries. The victim is expected to survive.

It does not appear that any other passengers were in the vehicle at the time of the crash.

Officials urged motorists to expect delays along Mopac Expressway in the area of the crash while crews worked at the scene.

A full investigation is underway.
