AUSTIN, TX – A 36-year-old man died when a vehicle struck him along a busy Austin roadway over the Memorial Day weekend.
According to KVUE, the incident occurred shortly before 1 a.m. on Saturday, May 24, on Burleson Road near Drossett Drive, which is just south of East Ben White Boulevard and Austin Craft Brewing.
The preliminary investigation indicates that 34-year-old Angelo Francisco Pinheiro struck a pedestrian on Burleson Road and fled without stopping to render aid.
The pedestrian, identified as Juan Mario Martinez-Hernandez, succumbed to his injuries at the scene of the crash.
Pinheiro called law enforcement shortly after the accident and confessed to his involvement in the crash.
Police arrested Pinheiro on charges that include driving under the influence and a collision involving death.
A full investigation is underway.
