Crash alert: Police identify motorcyclist who died in south Austin accident

AUSTIN, TX – The Austin Police Department identified a motorcyclist who died in an accident involving a pickup truck last month.

Police issued a news release on the accident that took place June 26 in the area of South Congress Avenue and Alpine Road in south Austin at 3:20 p.m.

Investigators said the driver of a Jeep Gladiator was making a left turn onto Alpine Road and turned in front of a motorcycle driven by 51-year-old Mitchell Lesley Pitman.  That caused Pitman to fall off the motorcycle and fall onto the ground.  He was taken to St. David’s South Austin Hospital, where he died on July 6.

The investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information regarding the incident was asked to contact the Highway Investigation Tip Line or Crime Stoppers.
