AUSTIN, TX – Two women sustained fatal injuries Wednesday night in a two-vehicle collision along the highway in southeast Austin.
According to KVUE, the accident occurred around 8 p.m. on the TX-130 northbound approaching Tesla Road. This is just west of Tesla Giga Texas and northeast of Austin-Bergstrom International Airport.
Police say that the driver of a northbound Cadillac XT6 was speeding when they lost control of their vehicle and crashed into a Kia Soul.
The impact of the collision caused the Cadillac to overturn, at which point both the driver and passenger were thrown from the vehicle and into the roadway.
Both occupants of the Cadillac died at the scene. One of the women was 19-years-old, and the other was 20.
It’s unclear if anyone in the Kia sustained injuries in the accident.
Officials closed TX-130 northbound while emergency crews gathered evidence and worked at the scene.
A full investigation is underway.
