Crash alert: 1 dead, 4 injured in collision on Loop 360 near Pennybacker Bridge

AUSTIN, TX – One person was killed and four others injured in a crash on Loop 360 in Austin early Friday morning, CBS Austin reports.

The accident happened in the northbound lanes near the Pennybacker Bridge sometime before 1 a.m.

Investigators said a car was rear-ended by an SUV, causing one of the vehicles to roll over.  Four people in the car were transported to an area hospital, and one of them was pronounced dead.  The SUV driver was hospitalized in critical condition.

North Capital of Texas Highway at the Pennybacker Bridge was shut down for several hours for the investigation before reopening later in the morning.

Investigators were trying to determine whether speed or alcohol were contributing factors in the fatal wreck.
