GIDDINGS, TX – Two people sustained critical injuries Sunday in a two-vehicle crash involving a tanker truck in Giddings, reports CBS Austin.
The incident happened around 10:49 a.m. at the intersection of US 290, or East Austin Street, and FM 180, on the eastern outskirts of the city.
Police say that a tanker truck carrying oil was turning onto the eastbound side of US-290 from FM 180 when an eastbound SUV crashed into the truck. Upon impact, both vehicles ignited.
Medics transported a man and a woman from the SUV to the hospital. It’s unknown whether they are expected to survive.
No other injuries have been reported in connection to the accident.
A full investigation is underway to determine the cause of the collision.
